Notice to Parents of Silverton ISD

Texas Ed. Code 37.113

Re. Threatening Statement on February 19, 2024

We are notifying you that during school today, February 19, 2024, a high school student acted in a manner that was disruptive to school operations and could be considered a threat to school safety.  The Briscoe County Sheriff’s Office and DPS are aware of this conduct and administration will convene the District’s Threat Assessment Team.  Out of an abundance of caution, the administration did not permit students to leave campus for lunch today.  The administration, in consultation with law enforcement, believes no imminent threat to students or staff currently exists, but may implement further safety measures if deemed appropriate. Law enforcement is still investigating this matter and will determine if any criminal enforcement action is warranted. The District will pursue appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the District’s student code of conduct if a student has engaged in any misconduct.

Silverton ISD administration places student safety as a top priority and will always consider a potential threat to be credible until determined to be otherwise.  We will continue to work diligently to keep your students and our staff safe from harm.
